long time no see !! i wanna get active on here again, so since it's now the spooky season im kicking off with some horror movie recs !! i love horror movies ALOT so things like gore/body horror don't bother me, but i will warn you that most of these are not for the easily squicked/scared !! i'm not ranking them in order since it's hard for me to pick my fav. one thing i'll note is, i didn't include movies like midsommar, jennifers body, the craft, black swan and get out because i feel like they're so iconic/well known that most people have probably already watched them, if you haven't, i 100% recommend them !
RAW (2016)
content warnings: gore, body horror, animal death, cannibalism, explicit sexual content
a movie about a freshmen in vet school who begins to experience cannibalistic urges. ok i know i said i'm not ranking them but this is DEFO my fav off this list. i'm not easily squicked but this is one of the few movies that was able to make my skin crawl. i also don't usually rewatch movies but i've rewatched Raw more times than I can count. one of the things i always look for in a horror movie is a good portrayal of female characters and Raw aces this aspect, the main characters are just chefs kiss muah.
A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT (2014)
content warnings: drug use
a movie about a vampire who preys on men. this movie is seriously so underrated, PLEASE do yourself a favor and watch it if you haven't already
HUSH (2016)
an amazing home invasion movie with a deaf protagonist, i'd say this is a relatively tame movie compared to most on this list, so it's a good pick if you want a scare without any extreme gore
HIS HOUSE (2020)
content warnings: child death
a movie about a refugee couple who escaped from sudan to britain, and moved into a haunted house. horror movies about the supernatural don't usually freak me out but His House is so chilling in the best way, it mixes supernatural horror and the horror of life as a refugee seamlessly
IT COMES AT NIGHT (2017)
content warnings: body horror, animal death
a post-apocalyptic movie about a mysterious illness, and a family trying to survive this threat. just a super eerie movie
A CURE FOR WELLNESS (2016)
content warnings: body horror, pedophilia
an executive is sent to find his companies CEO at a retreat in the swiss alps. another eerie ass movie that just keeps you guessing, i'm not even sure how to describe it, the horror scenes in the movie are really creative
STOKER (2013)
content warnings: attempted rape, child death, pedophilia
after the main characters father dies, her strange uncle pays her and her mother a visit. i absolutely love park chan wook and this movie is sooo good
YOU'RE NEXT (2011)
content warnings: gore
a movie about a family terrorized by a seemingly random home invasion. literally one of my favorite slasher films, erin best final girl !!!!
THIRST (2009)
content warnings: gore, body horror, explicit sexual content
a priest turned vampire falls in love with his friends wife. this is probably my second favorite movie by park chan wook (handmaiden is the first), its so unhinged and perfect, literally everything i want from a vampire movie
GINGER SNAPS (2000)
content warnings: gore, animal death
a movie about two strange sisters, one of whom gets turned into a werewolf. overall a fantastic werewolf movie and it has katharine isabella who i absolutely adore
SUSPIRIA (2018)
content warnings: gore, body horror
a young girl enters a strange and prestigious dance company. ok so don't get me wrong, the original movie is beautiful, but i honestly love this one a lot more, it's definitely way creepier IMO
ANNIHILATION (2018)
content warnings: gore, body horror
a biologist signs up for an expedition into a mysterious supernatural zone in order to find her missing husband. weird bitch of a movie !!!!
REVENGE (2017)
content warnings: gore, explicit sexual content, rape
a couple goes on a romantic trip to a remote desert area, but are interrupted by the boyfriends friends for an impromptu hunting trip. this one is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you like seeing evil men get what they deserve then you might like this one.
THE NEON DEMON (2016)
content warnings: gore, explicit sexual content, necrophilia
an aspiring model moves to LA, and discovers a darker side her fellow models. i'm recommending this even though overall i found this movie very slow paced and sometimes boring, because it makes up for that with stunning visuals and an amazing soundtrack. it has lots of creepy scenes that stuck with me years after watching it
AMERICAN MARY (2012)
content warnings: gore, body horror, rape
a med student turns to the body modification scene to make money. this is a body horror focused movie with a rape-revenge sideplot. katharine isabella i love youuuuuuu
ORPHAN (2009)
content warnings: gore, animal death, explicit sexual content
a married couple adopt a child with a rough past. when i tell you this movie threw me for a loop......chile
